Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Policy

Our Topics in Summer 1

Our topics this half term: Life Cycles, Mini beasts and Super Heroes. The children have enjoyed learning about the life cycle of the butterfly and have been watching our real caterpillars get bigger and bigger each day!  We will be exploring the outdoors where we will be looking for different kinds of bugs and insects. We are hoping the children will thoroughly enjoy the Super Heroes theme and produce some amazing writing.

During the summer term we will be working to prepare your child for Year 1.  Please ensure you spend time at home listening to them read if you are not doing so already.  The children also need to be encouraged to write independently. Ask them to write shopping lists, letters, cards and signs all by themselves. Please send them in to school to share with the adults and their friends.

Handwriting Practice

It is important that the children are forming letters correctly. When they are practicing encourage them not to lift their pencils except when crossing or dotting a letter – t f i j.  All letters start from the top except d and e.  If you would like any more information or help with this please come and see us.

Palm Class Trip

We will be visiting Ashburton Library on Thursday 10th May.  Full details will be sent to you nearer the time.

Easter Raffle

The raffle was drawn on the last day of last term and the lucky winners were as follows:

1st prize – Aiden                 2nd prize –   Anisa             3rd prize –  Jaycee

Boxes and stuff!

Please send in boxes, tubs, plastic bottles, lids and any other packaging that you may have for our ‘Junk Modelling’ activities.  We also welcome buttons, sequins, ribbon, etc.  The children thoroughly enjoy creating masterpieces with them.

We also welcome resources for our ‘Super Heroes’ theme such as bright coloured fabric and material.

Please Remember:

  • As we are now experiencing hot temperatures it is important that your child has a sun hat and water bottle. Only water should be in the bottle.  Although the weather is beginning to warm up the children still need to bring their coats everyday – just in case!
  • Put your child’s name on all items of clothing – including sun hats, PE kits, PE bags and shoes.
  • Book bags need to be in school every day – please check for letters.
